Wonder if you've read Greg Palasts' articles on peak oil. He sources it back to Standard Oil, who thought they could control markets if they brought about artificial scarcity ... Anyhow, I like the comics. Keep it up.
I've never heard of Greg Palasts, but I just read the mentioned article. His theory is not convincing. Peak Oil is a geological fact. But everyone knows that, right?
I have that same feeling of doom all the time, too. I often wonder: is my generation the one that'll be wandering a post-apocalyptic earth, scavenging for what little remains? Sometimes I worry that we've gone too far and there's no going back.
It's clear from some of the comments that their authors don’t get it. Not surprising, as Peak Oil is still barely on the media radar. It's more important than the recession, health care, terrorism, etc.; and no, it won't "solve" climate change.
Even people who have heard of it often don’t know what the term means or what its implications are. And there's now a deliberate attempt being made to re-brand it as "peak demand", which sounds nicer.
Research it. "They" won't tell you about it. You need to educate yourself on Peak Oil.
In my mini-rant above on Peak Oil (as "Anonymous" - still learning how to use the Google account) I forgot to say how good the comic is. The October one on Hubbert's Peak too; and all the others.
Congratulations on the "The Oil Drum" and other mentions. Hope you can keep it up (until the grid goes down, obviously :~/ ).
Sorry Comics are a collection of autobiographical stories from my life. I started this process in 2006 during a tumultuous break-up and I can't seem to shake the habit. Hopefully, you'll find them to be humorous, self-effacing, awkward, funny, uncomfortable and humiliating (for both you and me).
oh boy. I have a feeling we will be drinking more than one beer at SPX . . . .
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pacing on this comic! It emphasises that disparate attitude that a recession brings about.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, it sucks that you lost your job. Here's to hoping you find a better one soon.
i can only laugh...haa awesome comic dude.

Excellent comic, John. Sorry about the job loss. Fortunately this gives you more time to work on your excellent comic. I wish you all the best.
